General part information
UTC2000 Series
The USB Type-C® connector has revolutionized the wired connectivity world. It allows full featured systems to be capable of one single port of connection for SuperSpeed+ data transfers, high power (up to 100W per port), and graphics capability all through one single standard cable. Some cost sensitive products and applications value the smaller form factor and reversibility features of the USB Type-C connector, but do not necessarily care about other features like high power or graphics delivery. Instead, they prefer to implement the USB Type-C connector in their products at the lowest possible cost.
The UTC2000 is a basic USB Type-C controller that can be designed-in to any existing product to upgrade to USB Type-C. It provides the system a way to detect a USB Type-C cable is inserted or removed, detects which direction the cable is plugged in, and then controls the rest of the system to do its job. This includes enabling the port power controller to provide or sink the USB Type-C power profiles, enabling USB2.0/3.x data systems, as well as switching the USB Type-C port depending upon which direction the cable is plugged in. The UTC2000 is offered in an extremely small package size, and is provided in consumer, industrial and extended temperature versions. Automotive qualified version is also available.
