This four-channel reference design consists of a dual-stage half-bridge LLC and a separated power factor correction (PFC) stage with high-precision secondary-side controlled constant voltage output realized by the ICL5102 LED driver IC. For precise current control, as well as deep dimming down to 0.5% and flicker-free light on the secondary side a buck topology such as realized with the ILD8150E is the ideal choice. The primary stage utilizes a combo controller with DCM PFC which enables significant cost savings compared to CCM PFC mode that is commonly deployed at such high power levels. In addition the dedicated lighting IC ICL5102 ensures very low THD and high power factor over voltage and load variations. The multiple DCDC buck channels ensure reliable operation as well as scalability of this design over a wide power range by reducing / increasing the number of channels.This scalability enables a platform approach for high power and reduces the design effort for LED driver makers. The reference board offers excellent output voltage accuracy of typically +/-4% across a universal input voltage range from 90 to 305VACand wide output current range from 0 to 4.35A. High power factor, beyond 0.9, across a universal input voltage range from 90 to 305VACand down to 50% of nominal load is achievable.This solution allows for low input current total harmonic distortion (iTHD less than 15%) across a universal input voltage range (90 to 305VAC) and down to 30% of nominal load.
